What is FirePro?
FirePro is a fire extinguishing aerosol gas system.
What is the difference between FirePro and halon/new FM200 gas systems?
Halon and FM200 are liquid gas systems, which remain pressurized (under pressure) until they fire off. FirePro is a non-pressurised system, using a solid compound instead of liquid gas. This makes FirePro approximately one third the size, more compact and lighter.
How does FirePro detect the fire?
FirePro uses a heat sensitive thermal cord, which is activated at 172oC. The thermocord can be run in the engine room over any potential risk areas and is wrapped in a stainless steel coil for protection.
What is the benefit of using thermocord instead of the heat sensitive bulb like on the halon/FM200 type automatic extinguishers?
In most cases the thermocord will detect the fire much sooner than the heat sensitive bulb, as shown in the example below: -
Can FirePro be manually activated?
FirePro is activated automatically through the heat sensitive thermocord or manually with a switch. FirePro also has a fail-safe mechanism, which allows the unit to self activate at 300oC with or without thermocord or electrical activation.
Where does FirePro come from?
FirePro is the result of many years of research and development by scientists in one of the worlds leading institutes of technology, dealing mainly in space projects. FirePro Systems limited, based in Cyprus, manufacture and distribute FirePro around the world through a global network of distributors.
Where can you fit FirePro?
FirePro can be mounted on the deck head or bulkhead inside a boat engine room, a car engine compartment. The units should be high up with exit end in a downward position. FirePro produces a jet stream of aerosol gas and needs a reasonably clear and unimpeded area in which to flow, thus allowing the gas to flow freely thoughout the area.
Is FirePro environmentally friendly?
FirePro is totally environmentally friendly, with zero global warming potential, zero atmospheric lifetime and zero ozone depletion hazard. FirePro has been awarded the "Green Label"
How long is the shelf life of FirePro?
The solid SBK compound used in FirePro has infinite shelf life. If it was left in a room for thirty years it would not change its shape, weight or effectiveness. This compound is placed in a cylinder with others, which do have a certain shelf life. In the marine environment we can confidently quote that FirePro will last up to fifteen years with good maintenance.
What areas can be protected with FirePro?
Multiple FirePro units can be installed to protect any area. FirePro can be fitted anywhere, including inside the back of a computer monitor
Is FirePro marine approved?
FirePro has many different marine approvals throughout Europe:
RINA, ECB Recreational Craft Directive, Danish Maritime Authority commercial vessels up to 45m, CE, LPC UK approved, UL America, Test protocol D as per IMO/MSC 1007 directive. Due to be carrying out IMO MSC Circ 1007 testing with USCG late February 2005, after which should achieve MCA.
Is FirePro restricted for transportation?
FirePro is classed as NON-HAZARDOUS and can therefore be shipped anywhere throughout the world by air.
