FIRE EXTINGUISHING AEROSOL SYSTEMS

Fire fighting has reached its apogee with FirePro fire extinguishing aerosol systems. Using the very latest environmentally friendly technology, which is the result of many years of research and development in one of the worlds leading institutes of technology. This has resulted in FirePro systems being one of, if not the most efficient and effective ways of extinguishing fire without depleting oxygen or damaging the environment we live in.

FirePro is a cost effective alternative to halon. Using the very latest generation of stable non-pyrotechnic SBK aerosol-forming compound, which upon activation transforms into a rapidly expanding, highly efficient and highly effective extinguishing aerosol (1gram creates 1litre of aerosol gas). Based on potassium salts, the potassium molecules in the aerosol attack the fire physically and chemically, inhibiting the chain chemical reaction present in combustion.

Basic Characteristics of FirePro systems: -

Higher efficiency and effectiveness than conventional agents.
Ozone and environmentally clean and friendly.
Non-corrosive and non toxic, does not deplete oxygen.
Non pressurized containers, safe to transport.
Small and compact, saving on space and weight.
Service life up to 15 years, depending on the installed environment.
Easy to install and maintain, reducing installation and service costs.
Immediate activation and discharge times from 3+ seconds.
Non-electrical conductive. Tested up to 24,000V.
Automatic and manual activation.
Storage conditions from –50oC up to +15oC and humidity up to 98%.
Fire classifications A, B and C type fires.
Does not damage electrical or mechanical machinery.
Approved for Land-based and marine applications.
Can protect small and large areas
.

Relative quantities required /m3: -

FirePro is much more efficient and effective than other conventional agents. In comparison, FirePro requires approximately 75% less quantity per cubic metre (M3) than halon. Saving space and weight, making it an ideal choice for engine rooms, where space is often limited.

Environmentally Friendly: -

Halon was banned in the EEC due to damaging environmental effects. FirePro is ozone and environmentally friendly and has been awarded the “GREEN LABEL” approval.

O.D.P = zero (Ozone depletion potential)
A.L.T = zero (Atmospheric life time)
G.W.P = zero (Global warming potential)

Safety: -

FirePro is classed as a “non-hazardous” and non-pressurised fire extinguisher, making it safe for transportation, installation and maintenance. It is non-corrosive, ideal for expensive and delicate machinery, and nontoxic - safe in manned areas.

Suitable for use on class A, B and C type fires and electrical equipment. FirePro has no electrical conductivity up to 24,000 V.

Three modes of activation: -

    1. Automatically activated when connected to FirePro’s heat sensitive thermocord which is activated by naked flame or ambient temperatures of 172oC. The thermocord is available in any length and has a protective braiding and stainless steel spiral for ease of fixing with “P” clips. The thermocord is run over potential sources of ignition to ensure a fire is detected early, and activates the FirePro generator immediately.

    2. Manual activation via an electrical panel available specially designed by Marine Fire Safety. There are several to choose from to work either in conjunction with the heat sensitive thermocord, (offering automatic and manual activation), or a manually activated system working in conjunction with heat and smoke detectors. The FirePro generators require 0.8 – 2 amps for 2– seconds to activate the resistor in the unit.

    3. In the unlikely event that all systems were down and unable to activate   the FirePro generators, the units have a built in “fail-safe” safety system   which at a predetermined temperature of 300oC will self activate the solid compound within the FirePro generators.

FirePro Approvals: -

Throughout the world, FirePro has been rigorously tested and as proof of its effectiveness and efficiency it has achieved over 45 recognised approvals, certificates and test results for land-based and marine applications including KIWA, DNV-ISO9001, KEMA, UKAS accredited, MCA, ECB, ABB and many, many more. For further information on the latest approvals, contact Marine Fire Safety.

Installation and maintenance: -

FirePro has up to 15 years of operational lifetime depending on environment and can be installed in areas with ambient temperatures ranging from –55oC to +150oC and humidity up to 98%. The aerosol forming SBK solid compound is stable and does not contain pyrotechnic material, efficiency is therefore not compromised.

FirePro must be installed to the manufacturers instruction manual and like all fire extinguishers, should be checked annually. Although FirePro is not a pressurized cylinder and does not require the same amount of maintenance as other conventional pressurized systems, it should be a visually checked on a yearly basis
